About Carolina Children's Dentistry
Carolina Children’s Dentistry was founded by Dr. Felicia L. Goins in Sumter, South Carolina in 1986. She practiced solo for almost 13 years before Dr. Lisbeth Poag joined her in 1998. The practice expanded to Columbia in 2001 and has now grown to include Dr. Aunchana Tocharoen, Dr. Sharlene Martin and most recently, Dr. Lisa Cherry. We primarily serve children in Sumter, Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, Williamsburg, Lee, Clarendon, Orangeburg and Lancaster counties, but we are also fortunate to have loyal patients from throughout South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia who travel to see us.
Dr. Goins established the practice because she realized that there was a need for children to receive the best dental care in the state, especially in those rural areas where there are not many dentists practicing. Today, we continue that mission by rendering the highest level of pediatric and specialized dental care in a fun-loving and caring atmosphere. We provide a full range of dental restorative and dental hygiene services for patients ranging from toddlers to age 18. To provide individualized care for the uniqueness of each child, everyday we promote an environment that consistently develops self-esteem for all.
We believe that there is nothing more important than meeting the needs of children. Having good oral hygiene helps children not only have a great smile, but also prevents many other types of health problems down the road. Our goal is to educate parents by educating children in good oral hygiene practices.
We would not be where we are without our tremendous staff. They are the most dedicated, hard-working, caring people who care not only about our patients, but about parents as well. Our staff oversees everything that occurs in the office, and they have it down to a science. The children and parents feel that genuine care every time they come through the door.
We measure success by how many smiles we produce. The greatest reward we can receive is to see a child grow up with a healthy, confident smile. Many children are initially afraid of dentistry, but we teach them and try to unwrap their fears one at a time until we see that child greet us with a hug and a smile. For us, that’s what it’s all about.
